Male Enhancement Pill Recall Overview:
- Who: A slate of male sexual enhancement pills sold on Amazon are being recalled by their producers.
- Why: Amazon testing found that the pills contain the undeclared drug tadalafil.
- Where: The recall is nationwide.
A slate of male sexual enhancement pills sold on Amazon are being recalled by their producers after they were found to contain the undeclared drug tadalafil.
In five separate recall notice, Esupplementsales, LLC recalled its Hard Dawn Rise and Shine capsules; Celebrate Today recalled its Red Mammoth capsules; ABC Sales 1 Inc. recalled its Mac Daddy Red and Purple Dietary Supplements; Your Favorite Shop recalled The Red Pill; and Junp LLC recalled its MegMan Performance Booster capsules.
In all of the recall notices, posted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the companies say they were informed by Amazon that a laboratory analysis had found the products were tainted with tadalafil, an ingredient approved by the FDA for the treatment of male erectile dysfunction.
The presence of tadalafil in the pills makes them unapproved drugs and subject to recall.
Consumers Could Experience Serious Health Risks
The FDA says in all of the recall notices that consumers with underlying medical conditions may experience serious health risks if they take the recalled pills as tadalafil may interact with prescription drugs, lowering blood pressure to dangerous levels that may be life-threatening.
To date, California-based Esupplementsales, LLC says it has not received any reports of adverse events related to this recall. Hard Dawn Rise and Shine capsules are marketed as a dietary supplement for male sexual enhancement and packaged in 10-count blister cards. The affected Hard Dawn Rise and Shine packages include pills with lot number 2107 and an expiration date of 07/2024, according to the notice.
New Jersey-based Your Favorite Shop’s recalled The Red Pill includes pills with a lot number of 26436989 and expiry of 10/30/2023. The pills are also packaged in a 10-count blister package. Your Favorite Shop has not received any reports of adverse events related to The Red Pill, the company says.
Brooklyn-based Junp LLC also says it has had no reports of adverse reactions in relation to its recalled MegMan Performance Booster capsules. According to the recall notice, the recalled pills have a UPC 8 48998 0091 2, lot number of 2010291 and expiration date of 01/07/2024.
Two Brands Contain Multiple Unapproved Drugs
Celebrate Today’s Red Mammoth capsules and ABC Sales 1 Inc.’s Mac Daddy Red and Purple Dietary Supplements contain not one but two unapproved drugs, according to the recall notices.
Celebrate Today says it is recalling its Red Mammoth capsules with the lot number DK1027 and expiry 08/01/2023 after Amazon’s laboratory analysis found they were tainted with sildenafil and tadalafil. Both sildenafil and tadalafil are used to treat male erectile dysfunction but must be prescribed by a medical professional.
“The presence of sildenafil and tadalafil in Red Mammoth capsules renders the product an unapproved drug for which safety and efficacy have not been established and, therefore, subject to recall,” the notice says.
To date, Celebrate Today says it has not received any reports of adverse events related to the pills.
The same goes for ABC Sales 1 Inc.’s Mac Daddy Red and Purple Dietary Supplements, which were also found to contain sildenafil and tadalafil. The company is recalling its Mac Daddy Red Capsules, lot 1230004, expiry 03/30/2024 and Mac Daddy Purple Capsules, lot 1230005, expiry 03/30/2024.
All of the companies are notifying consumers via press announcements and through Amazon messages and say they are arranging for return of all recalled products. Consumers are being told to stop using all of the recalled pills.
On Dec. 17, 2020, the FDA issued a press release that warned consumers to avoid certain products, including male enhancement and weight loss pills, found on Amazon, eBay and other retailers due to hidden and potentially dangerous drug ingredients. It also encouraged online marketplaces to ensure these products are not sold on their platforms.
