Last night in Los Angeles, the front row of Dior Men’s resort 2023 collection—which was guest-designed by ERL’s Eli Russell Linnetz—was filled with stars including Michael B. Jordan, Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz-Beckham, Kid Cudi, and Rita Ora. One more unexpected guest, however, was pro skater Tony Hawk, who rocked the front row in a Dior logo sweater and acid-wash jeans. For Hawk, being a VIP fashion show attendee was an entirely new experience. “It was wild—I’ve never really been to a runway show,” Hawk tells Vogue. “I haven’t been in a crowd like that for a few years, and you could just feel the excitement. I sat between Christina Ricci and Christina Aguilera.” Who better to ask than to document the night for us?
Hawk took Vogue inside the Dior Men’s show below, and he says the new menswear collection is one that he could easily imagine himself wearing day-to-day. “I love how they were going with the semi-formal look with the suits, but making them real light casual,” says Hawk. “And then bringing back the big ‘90s skate shoes—I definitely caught that element.” His favorite looks were the graphic pastel knits and boxy suits. “They reminded me of an updated Talking Heads vibe—very edgy, but without the shoulder pads.” For his own show look, however, he wanted something a little more subtle and chic—so he opted to throw on a cream logo sweater overtop his crisp button-up and jeans. He calls the vibe “edgy science teacher.”

When he’s not at a fashion show, Hawk says his current wardrobe is a little more subdued. “I usually go for darker colors, and stuff that’s more functional for skating,” he says. “I’m not always skating, but there’s a chance I’ll step on my board, and I don’t want to wear clothes and destroy it if I fall.” Lately, he’s been wearing the Lizzie Armanto Vans to skate in (she’s a skater herself and a Hawk protogé). Sneakers are his biggest shopping weakness, he says. “I burn through them,” he says. “I’m always wearing shoes that are suitable for skating. Even when my wife and I went to the Oscars, I was wearing a tux and skate shoes.”
As for what the legendary athlete will be up to this summer? “I’m going on a speaking tour in Europe [this summer,]” says Hawk. “And I’m just recovering from a broken leg, so what you can expect from me in the coming months is attempting to ride my skateboard again.” He will do it in style, no doubt.
