A new Prada installation popped up this week at Neiman Marcus NorthPark Center. Catch the vibe through June 1.
It’s a vacation to a hyper-stylized tropical paradise, where you can taste yellows and pinks, bathe in a warm neon glow and soak up so many summertime vibes resonating from this temporary fashion fantasy island. And do it without leaving the neighborhood or dipping into the hallucinogenic-mushroom stash that you definitely do not have.
Luxury fashion house — masters of display as art — Prada presents Prada Tropico, “an original landscape inspired by the color sand atmospheres of striking distant lands that express Prada’s key visual traits in a contemporary, ‘pop’ language,” according to a press release. “The bright colors and geometric shapes carry into the store’s special collection including men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, accessories, and shoes.”
The main draw, see this video of the installation in Dubai for reference, is a thicket of many-metallic-branched trees growing Prada bucket hats of various colors, models and materials as leaves. Floors and walls feature similar backlit surfaces marked by alternating stripes in contrasting colors.
“Prada Tropico combines creative expression with immersive, eye-catching visuals throughout the installation by unlocking carefree memories of vacation and joy of retro fashion,” says Neiman’s president and chief marketing officer Lana Todorovich.
As for the clothing and accessories, colored stripes, like those in the exhibit, “give a burst of energy to flowing silk blouses, mini, calf-length and full skirts, vibrant pajama-inspired looks and casual men’s shirts and shorts.” (You had me at “pajama-inspired.”) Matching hues are repeated in the accessories — striped hats constructed with raffia, nylon, and cotton drill. And of course the Prada Triangle bag is available in leather and raffia.
In summary, stripes, stripes and stripe-y stripes are in.
Todorovich says that considering the success of last year’s Prada installation Outdoor Coast, the Dallas-based department store at NorthPark was excited to host Tropico.
“Our customers come to us for curation, exclusivity and extraordinary luxury experiences, and Prada is a global leader in luxury” she says. “We are excited to continue our strong partnership and business momentum as their exclusive U.S. partner for this season’s experiential launch of Prada Tropico. We believe that relationships and connection with our customers is more important than transactions, and curation and unique experiences are more inspiring than endless assortments. With these partnerships, we continue to create innovative ways to engage and elevate the customer’s experience.”
