There was a time, before a little-known global pandemic hit our newswires, when loungewear was the most uncalculated, slobbish style move a man could make. Three lockdowns later, suits and ties had well and truly been resigned to the darkest shadows of our wardrobes in place of pyjamas, joggers, dressing gowns and slippers.
And though we’re very thankful those more sartorial elements of our wardrobes have made a comeback, there’ll be no second thought given to home uniforms anymore, whether thrown on after a nine-to-five from home or while sitting cosily at our desks, feigning technical difficulties as we choose comfort over sharing our video on a Zoom call.
Quite rightly, men’s fashion has stepped up its loungewear game to accommodate the demand for more relaxed dressing. Not only have brands known for unparalleled comfort come through with stylish new lines of fleece-lined tracksuits and tactile tees, but those better known for their sartorial style have also jumped on the cosy wagon, with names such as Reiss swapping suiting for sweatpants.
All of which has brought us to a point when old band tees and tracksuit bottoms (AKA embracing your inner slob) just won’t cut it when it comes to loungewear.
